One can learn by reading and chanting,And by way of meditation. one should indulge in studies  From morning till night. 

102.昔仲尼 师项橐 古圣贤 尚勤学
Confucius set a good example, Who once followed Xiang Tuo as a disciple. All sages and nobles in ancient times Would work hard at their studies. 

103.赵中令 读鲁论 彼既仕 学且勤
A prime minister called Zhao Pu Lost himself in the study of the Analects. Though he had a high post in the government, He was still a diligent learner. 

104.披蒲编 削竹简 彼无书 且知勉
Lu Wenshu copied books on grass weave, And Gongsun Hong wrote on bamboo chips. The poor guys had no books of their own,Yet they had such means to try. 

105.头悬梁 锥刺股 彼不教 自勤苦
Sun Jing fastened his hair to the beam, And Su Qin stabbed his thighs with an awl. Why both of them did such strange deeds?they took pains to learn of themselves.

106.如囊萤 如映雪 家虽贫 学不辍
Che Yin read under the light of glow worms,And Sun Kang read against the white snow. Though they came from poor families, They never stopped their studies. 

107.如负薪 如挂角 身虽劳 犹苦卓
Zhu Maichen tried reading in firewood cutting, And Li Mi held his book in cattle herding. Though they were tired out at work,They were still learning hard. 

108.苏老泉 二十七 始发愤 读书籍
Sun Xun didn’t start to learn  Until he was twenty seven.
Though it was late for him to learn, Yet he finally had much to attain. 

109.彼既老 犹悔迟 尔小生 宜早思
When he became old, He still felt repentant.
Young pupils, all of you, Better start learning sooner. 

110.若梁灏 八十二 对大廷 魁多士
Liang Hao was acclaimed At the age of eighty two:
He stood out from the scholars, And was listed top in Court Examination. 

111.彼既成 众称异 尔小生 宜立志
Only after he had been a success,  Could others hail to him in surprise. Young pupils, all of you,  Better decide what to do. 

112.莹八岁 能咏诗 泌七岁 能赋棋
When Zu Ying was eight years old, He could recite many poems. And when Liu Mi was seven, He could compose a chess ode. 

113.彼颖悟 人称奇 尔幼学 当效之
Such boys with unusual talents Always surprise the other people. Young pupils, all of you, Better imitate what they’ve done. 

114.蔡文姬 能辩琴 谢道韫 能咏吟
Cai Wenji was such a gifted girl  That she was expert at the organ. And Xie Daoyun, a bright young lady, Could show her poetic gift on a snowy day.

115.彼女子 且聪敏 尔男子 当自警
There were many girls as such, Who were clever and smart. All of you, pupil boys, Should be aware of yourselves. 

116.唐刘晏 方七岁 举神童 作正字
When Liu Yan, a figure of the Tang Dynasty, Was at the age of seven,  He was called a child sage, In charge of proofreading books for the government, 

117.彼虽幼 身已仕 有为者 亦若是
Young as he was, He became an official. All of you, young learners,  Can also achieve the same. Whoever hold such ambition Will also succeed like this. 

118.犬守夜 鸡司晨 苟不学 曷为人
 A dog can keep watch at night, And a cock can crow at dawn.  If a person fails to learn, How can he be a successful person?

119.蚕吐丝 蜂酿蜜 人不学 不如物
A silkworm can make silk, And a honeybee can make honey. If a person fails to learn,  He’ll be good for nothing.

120.幼习业 壮致身 上匡国 下利民
If a child learns a lot, He’ll succeed in his adulthood, Not only serving the country, But also benefiting the people. 

121.扬名声 显父母 光于前 裕于后
He’ll run into great fame, Which brings honors to his parents. All his ancestors will enjoy the glory, And all his offerspring will benefit from his victory. 

122.人遗子 金满赢 我教子 唯一经
People usually bequeath their children With boxes of golden bars; And what I leave to my son  Is nothing but this scripture.

123.勤有功 戏无益 戒之哉 宜勉力
Study hard, and you’ll succeed;  Play truant, and you’ll fail. Be aware of all this, behold!  And work harder and harder.
